I remember my seventh birthday like it was yesterday. My mom and dad let me invite five of my best friends to see a marionette show. How I laughed to watch this puppet being pulled on strings hopping about from one end of the stage to the other. It was dressed in brightly colored clothes with a hat that looked like a jester's. He so desperately wanted to please the king but was foiled in his attempts. Instead, he made the audience laugh as the king recoiled in anger. I left thinking I would love to see such a show again. Have you ever heard the saying, "Be careful what you wish for...." I would like to dedicate a section of this blog and call it "Who's pulling the strings this week". Who knows, it may be one of the right wing zealots, Cheney himself (once he gets over the fact that someone else was the puppet master and got rid of his best friend Rumsfeld) or maybe an oil tycoon. This may be the case if we see oil costs rise in the next several months now that the elections are over. Many would be repulsed by the fact our president has no mind of his own but in many ways I feel for him. It must be very difficult to decide who you want to court when someone else is pulling your strings.

We are decidedly left leaning Bush bashers, and have been since 2000, when this scourge was forced upon us by the state of Florida and the United States Supreme Court. The Constitution be damned; the people have spoken, and George Bush is elected by a vote of 5-4.

Yesterday, our national day of giving thanks, was marked by an alarming escalation in the Iraqi civil war. Even as I and millions of others here in the United States were lulled into our tryptofan induced comas, and George Bush and family were cozied up safe and sound at Camp David, thousands of American troops remain trapped in the middle, unable to come home, three and a half years after GWB stood on the deck of that aircraft carrier and proclaimed "Mission Accomplished!" I continue to ask "Mission accomplished for whom?"
